Cloudy Headlights?

Do your headlights look foggy or hazy? Maybe you have noticed reduced visibility at night or during rainy conditions. The good news is you do not need to replace your headlights, and the haze is usually not coming from inside the lens as many people assume. In most cases, the damage is on the outside surface and can be corrected with professional restoration.

The Ultimate Headlight Restoration Process

We do not use generic headlight restoration kits from auto parts stores. Our process is a full eight step sanding, compounding, polishing, and protection system designed to deliver long lasting, like new results.

Step 1: Sand headlights with 800 grit to remove heavy oxidation. This is where the yellowed, failed clear coat is stripped away.

Step 2: Sand with 1000 grit to further remove oxidation and begin refining sanding marks.

Step 3: Sand with 1500 grit to improve clarity and smooth the surface.

Step 4: Sand with 2500 grit to continue refining the lens.

Step 5: Sand with 3000 grit as the final sanding stage, leaving the headlight significantly clearer.

Step 6: Compound the headlights using a machine polisher to remove sanding marks.

Step 7: Polish the headlights to maximize clarity and restore a like new finish.

Step 8: Apply a one year ceramic coating to protect the lenses from future oxidation and UV damage.

By sanding the headlights, we remove the failed and oxidized clear coat that causes the yellow and foggy appearance. Compounding and polishing restore clarity, and the ceramic coating locks in protection and durability.

Important: Headlight restoration is no longer offered as a standalone service and must be combined with at least one additional service.

Headlight Restoration FAQ

Do you come to me?

Headlight restoration is performed at our shop and is not offered as a standalone service. It must be paired with another service such as a Premium Interior or Wash and Wax. This allows us to properly prep, restore, and protect the headlights in a controlled environment for the best results.

How long does this service take?

Most headlight restorations take between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the size and condition of the headlights. Severely oxidized lenses may require additional time.

Can you restore any headlights?

There are limits to what restoration can achieve. While we can significantly improve the appearance and clarity of most headlights, some lenses may have permanent damage from years of oxidation or UV exposure and may not return to a like new condition.

Why do headlights turn yellow or hazy?

Headlights have a clear coat just like paint. Over time, constant sun exposure causes that clear coat to break down and oxidize, creating the yellow or foggy appearance. Because headlight lenses are made of plastic, their clear coat does not last as long as automotive paint, especially when the vehicle is parked outside frequently.

How do I keep my headlights looking good?

Maintenance is key. Parking in the shade when possible will help extend their clarity. You can also apply a wax or sealant to the headlights every three to five weeks, which only takes a few minutes and helps slow down future oxidation.
